The protocol at a glance
No safe or effective human dose is known. In the main mouse study, obese mice got three small injections a day under the skin for 11 days.
| Item | What is known |
|---|---|
| Human dose | Not established |
| Studied in | Mice (injection under the skin) |
| Mouse dose | 20 mg/kg per injection, 3 times a day, 11 days |
| Human trials | None found |
From Neelakantan H et al. Biochem Pharmacol 2018 and a 2022 Scientific Reports mouse study (32 mg/kg by injection). Do not convert mouse doses into human doses.
Community posts often suggest oral doses of 50 to 150 mg a day in 6 to 8 week cycles. This is community talk with no trial behind it.
What people say they do, collected from community discussions. Not tested in a trial; shown so you can compare it with the evidence above.
Mixing
No mixing table here: this one is used as a capsule, nasal spray or skin product, or has no human amount to calculate from. The general mixing calculator works for any vial.
What the trials found
No human results exist. In obese mice fed a high-fat diet:
Neelakantan H et al. Biochem Pharmacol 2018 (PubMed 29155147): treated mice lost weight and fat, ate the same food, and showed no visible side effects.
Side effects
- No human safety data exists.
- In mice, the authors saw no obvious side effects at the doses tested. That does not tell us about safety in people.
How it works
NNMT enzyme
It blocks an enzyme called NNMT. In fat cells this raised NAD+ and another energy molecule (SAM) and lowered fat storage.
